Environmental issues will continue to shape the future of travel
Sustainable travel as an issue has come to the fore in recent years amid enviromental concerns and the harmful effects that petrol- and diesel-driven vehicles have on the environment and global warming.
For this reason, one of the core principles of the South West Scotland Community Rail Partnership is to look at ways of encouraging greater use of the railways in our area, both by local people and visitors as railways are a ‘green’ way to travel.
To that end, we will continue to press for improved bus connections at stations, encourage cycling through the provision of better facilities for cyclists and discussing with our strategic partners how we can best meet emerging trends such as solar electric charge points at station car parks for electric and hybrid cars.
There is no doubt that environmental issues will continue to shape the future of travel and we believe it is important that we are ahead of the curve when it comes to planning for the future challenges and opportunities this presents.
