There are many additional health benefits to getting involved
The South West Scotland Community Rail Partnership will seek to encourage community involvement with their railway across South West Scotland through projects such as ScotRail’s Adopt a Station project.
Stations play an important role in communities and, with more than 260 ScotRail stations across the country now part of the programme, the scheme has gone from strength to strength since it launched in 2005.
The Partnership want to help Scotrail maintain a good environment for people using and working in stations across our area and community groups adopting stations can help them to do just that. Successful adoptions across Scotland include a wide range of uses such as garden displays, charity bookshops, art galleries and model railway clubs.
By encouraging communities to engage with their local rail stations, we can also help people become more active and healthy.
Through adopting your local station, you are able to showcase your community, giving it an appearance in which the community can take pride. Station adoption does not only improve initial impressions of your community, but it can have many additional benefits.
Station adoption appeals to a range of individuals, businesses and community groups from existing community groups, schools wishing to create horticulture lessons for their students, people who have a particular interest in horticulture, or charities wishing to raise their profile, or showcase their services while promoting interaction with members of the travelling public.
Businesses on or near the station benefit from improved local surroundings and the chance to raise their profile within their community too.
Get involved! If you would like to learn more about becoming involved in your local station or about the work of the Partnership, or simply for more information about our work in this area, please email the Partnership.
